Beijing - Tokyo
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for a peaceful solution to tensions on the Korean peninsula, calling it a phone call with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, when US warships led by USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier are heading to the region.

Xi's appeal to Mr. Tram follows a powerful Chinese state-run newspaper warning that the Korean peninsula is nearing a military conflict since Pyongyang conducted the first nuclear test in 2006.

Tensions were high on the Korean Peninsula amid fears that the isolated state could test a sixth nuclear test or launch a missile soon, while Donald Trump threatened to act alone to solve the North's problems.

Donald Trump ordered a fleet of flying aircraft carriers to head to the Korean peninsula for the purpose of detering North Korea ambitious Nuclear and missile programs, a stubborn rebuke of the United Nations.

The call on Wednesday between Xi and Mr. Tram follows the final meeting in Florida last week. It is unclear whether Mr. Xi or Mr. Tram, who initiated the call,

Mr Tram, who urged China to make further efforts to refrain from provoking the DPRK, warned that Pyongyang was seeking self-determination and that the United States would resolve the matter, whether or not Beijing had the support.

"China has pledged the goal of decentralization of the Korean Peninsula to preserve peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and to support resolutions through peaceful means," CCTV stressed."China is keen to maintain close relations and coordination with the US side," Xi said.

Earlier on Wednesday, two news sources in Tokyo said the Japanese navy had planned to conduct a joint exercise with the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier in a joint statement. China's Global Times also said in the editorial that the DPRK had to stop nuclear plans and missile actions for personal security. The newspaper also noted Mr Tram's recent decision to shoot 59 missiles on Syria Air Force Base as a response to chemical weapons attacks.

Global Times wrote: "Washington is confident and arrogant after the missile attack on Syria, and Mr. Tram also wants to be considered a man who respects his promise." Mr. Norara
